At Management inSites, we often talk about being the “eyes and ears” for our clients in the United States. But to truly represent a European manufacturer—to understand their culture, precision, and long-term vision—you cannot rely on Zoom alone. You have to walk the factory floor.
Last week, CEO Daniel Andrepont and COO Melissa Ratliff embarked on a strategic road trip across Germany and the Czech Republic. Their mission was not just to shake hands, but to align on 2026 U.S. expansion strategies with the leaders and engineers who drive our partners’ success.
Here are the strategic highlights from their tour of innovation.
1. Mesutronic: The Value of Vertical Integration
Location: Kirchberg im Wald, Germany
Our first stop was with Christian Boxleitner at Mesutronic Gerätebau GmbH, a global leader in metal detection technology. After catching up over a great lunch, Christian led Daniel and Melissa on an impressive 90-minute tour of the facility.
In the U.S. market, supply chain reliability is a critical competitive advantage. Touring Mesutronic’s facility revealed exactly why they are leaders in this space: they handle every step of the process in-house, from initial design to final shipping. Seeing this commitment to vertical integration firsthand reinforced our confidence in their ability to meet the rigorous demands of American customers without reliance on fragile external supply chains during their U.S. expansion.
2. Schneeberger: The Human Side of FDI
Location: Cheb, Czech Republic
Crossing the border into the Czech Republic, the team visited Schneeberger Mineralgusstechnik, a pioneer in mineral casting for high-performance machine beds.
Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) is often discussed in terms of capital and legal entities, but its success relies on people. Following a wonderful dinner with George the night before and a fantastic lunch at the production facility’s canteen, the highlight of this visit was witnessing workforce development in real time. Daniel and Melissa saw U.S. employees—hired for Schneeberger’s upcoming facility in Rock Hill, South Carolina—training side by side with their Czech counterparts.
This knowledge transfer is the foundation of a successful launch. As production kicks off in South Carolina later this year, this collaboration ensures the U.S. team isn’t just operating machines, but inheriting the parent company’s culture of precision.
3. Walter Cleaning Systems: Global Synchronicity
Location: Sachsenheim, Germany
Back in Germany, the team met with Julia Ingelfinger at Walter Cleaning Systems, who graciously pampered them with German pretzels.
During the meeting, we dove into their U.S. sales strategy, specifically discussing the ideal profile for their open U.S. position as they look to make their first direct hire. The engineering philosophy here is distinct: their advanced nozzle heads are described as the “heart” of their cleaning technology. Whether cleaning industrial mixers for the precast industry, specialized meat buggies in the food industry, or chemical containers, the precision of these components is vital.
The visit also highlighted the power of global coordination. While MI leadership was strategizing at the German HQ, the Walter Cleaning Systems U.S. sales team was simultaneously exhibiting at The Precast Show in Kansas City. This seamless alignment—strategy in Germany, execution in America—is the model of a mature international subsidiary.
4. SCAT Europe: Future-Proofing for U.S. Regulation
Location: Mörfelden-Walldorf, Germany
The tour concluded with a look at the future of environmental safety at SCAT Europe GmbH, where the local team treated Daniel and Melissa to pizza during their meeting. The strategy session focused heavily on SCAT’s U.S. sales approach and the operational shift of bringing warehousing and back-office operations back to us at MI following the end of their U.S. Manager’s visa.
The U.S. regulatory landscape is shifting rapidly, particularly regarding “forever chemicals” (PFAS). SCAT is ahead of the curve. We toured the production of their “GreenLine” products—a new generation of safety caps that are PFAS-free and utilize high-performance PEEK plastics.
By investing in sustainability now, SCAT is positioning itself as a forward-thinking leader ready for the stricter American environmental standards of tomorrow.
5. Lederer GmbH: Logistics Excellence and Complex Growth
The grand finale of the trip was a visit to Lederer GmbH. After enjoying dinner and drinks at the local pub the night before, the Lederer team took Daniel and Melissa on a deep dive into their massive warehousing facilities. Seeing the sheer scale, precision, and efficiency of their stainless-steel fastener distribution firsthand was incredible.
However, the visit was about more than just world-class logistics. Daniel and Melissa spent the day engaged in high-level strategy mapping for Lederer’s U.S. entity. They tackled complex organizational growth questions, specifically analyzing who the critical first U.S. hire should be—weighing the strategic benefits of a General Manager versus a Sales Lead or a Procurement specialist. It was a perfect example of how MI doesn’t just act as “boots on the ground,” but serves as a strategic partner helping companies navigate the complexities of scaling in America.
Why These Visits Matter
An International Business Incubator should be more than a service provider; we must be a strategic extension of your company.
By engaging directly with the engineers and leaders behind these brands, we gain the insights necessary to represent them effectively in the United States. Our leadership team returns to Charlotte with a renewed understanding of our clients’ innovations and a clear roadmap for their continued growth in 2026.
